File A Complaint
Why File a Complaint?
The College’s complaints process is intended to address serious concerns related to professional conduct, ethical obligations, or standards of practice. Filing a complaint is an important step in helping the College fulfill its mandate to protect the public. Concerns should be based on specific actions, decisions, or behaviours that may constitute a breach of professional or ethical standards.
When to File a Complaint
A complaint may be appropriate if you believe a licensed counselling therapist or candidate has: breached the College’s Code of Ethics or Standards of Practice; acted in a manner that may place clients or the public at risk; or engaged in unprofessional, unethical, or incompetent conduct. The complaints process is not intended to address dissatisfaction that does not involve a potential breach of professional or ethical obligations.
How to File a Complaint
1) Draft a Signed Letter
Include as much detail as you are comfortable providing along with any supporting documentation you think may be relevant.
**Please note that we cannot accept letters/packages that require signature.
2) Email the letter to info@cctnb.ca or Mail To:
205 – 236 St George Street
Moncton NB, E1C 1W1
3) Wait to be Contacted by the College
Once received, the complaint is reviewed by the Registrar to determine whether it falls within the College’s jurisdiction and meets the threshold to proceed through the formal complaints process.
Decisions of the Discipline Committee
When a decision is made by the Discipline Committee, a notice will be published on the College’s website. These notices do not necessarily identify the member involved. Publishing discipline decisions helps ensure transparency and demonstrates the College’s commitment to public protection by showing that concerns are taken seriously and that appropriate action is taken.
